JOURNALING

Are you looking for ideas to deepen your walk with the Lord?

How about Bible Journaling!

Bible journaling is an exciting way to engage with Scripture. It can transform the way you spend time in the Word and it all begins within the margins of your Bible

With Bible journaling, you will find a creative and fresh approach to the age-old discipline of Bible reading. With pen in hand, you can visually capture Scripture, meditate on God's Word and memorize the text.

Some choose to journal as an expression of private devotion, others journal as an act of worship and there are even some who consider it a creative outlet that can be shared.

No matter what your purpose for Bible journaling, the beauty of the movement is this: it doesn’t require a skilled artist. All that matters is that you’re willing to experience God and His Word in a creative way. If you have seen any images on Pinterest, Bible journaling can look very different depending on the type of art and mixed media you choose to use.

Some call it creative Bible journaling or art journaling, because people tend to use art as a way to illustrate their faith. You can use colored pencils, gel pens, markers, stamps, stencils, gelatos, or watercolor paint.

Bible journaling can be as simple as drawing cute stick figures from a simple Bible story, or as advanced as creating beautiful watercolor pages to your journaling Bible. Whatever type of art you choose to use for your Bible journaling, make sure that it is something that you feel comfortable doing.  This should not cause you stress!

So let’s get started.

Above you can see how I focused on Psalm 63:7-8 and sketched out a butterfly with a pencil and came back later to add color.  I added the verse around the butterfly with a journaling pen, so it would not bleed into the following pages. I often add a note about my feelings towards the verse and let the verse soak within my heart.

I noticed by journaling a verse, the verse became easy to remember and could be used later during warfare.

If drawing and coloring makes you uncomfortable, there are tons of clipart within Pinterest that you can print and trace in case you are afraid to mess up your bible. Initially, that was my fear and I quickly got over it by buying a bible just for journaling.  My perfectionism was delighted to have a free landscape with my bible to work. πŸ˜‰

I am so grateful for the Bible, a light for our path and a voice to our deepest struggles can be expressed through our creativity
